B07, B08, B09, and B10 Wetland Mitigation

The construction of U.S. Route 22, Sections B07, B08, B09, and B10, will impact approximately 3.5 acres of wetlands.  To compensate for these impacts, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is developing replacement wetlands along Loyalhanna Creek, within the Loyalhanna Creek flood control project.  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE), which owns and maintains the property, will continue to own the property upon completion of the wetlands.  The property is managed under a cooperative agreement between the USACOE, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and Pheasants Forever.

As part of the U.S. Route 22 B07 project, PennDOT constructed approximately two acres of wetlands at the site.  During the construction of Route 22, Section B08, PennDOT will construct an additional 3.8 acres of replacement wetlands near the B07 mitigation site to compensate for the wetland impacts that will occur from the entire project.  Construction at the second site is expected to begin in Spring 2007.  Both wetland sites will be open for public access.
