The construction of U.S. Route 22, Sections B07, B08, B09, and
B10, will impact approximately 3.5 acres of wetlands. To
compensate for these impacts, the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation (PennDOT) is developing replacement wetlands
along Loyalhanna Creek, within the Loyalhanna Creek flood
control project. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE),
which owns and maintains the property, will continue to own
the property upon completion of the wetlands. The property is
managed under a cooperative agreement between the USACOE, the
Pennsylvania Game Commission, and Pheasants Forever. |

As part of the U.S. Route 22 B07 project, PennDOT constructed approximately two
acres of wetlands at the site in 2002. During the construction of Route
22, Section B08, PennDOT constructed an additional 3.8 acres
of replacement wetlands near the B07 mitigation site to
compensate for additional wetland impacts incurred for Sections
B08 - B10. Construction at the second site was
completed in the Fall of 2008. Both wetlands will be
monitored for a five-year period in accordance with the USACOE
and the PA Department of Environmental Protection 404/105
permit. Both wetland sites will
be open for public access. |
