The Section B09
(Derry Township) of U.S. Route 22 in Westmoreland County is to be
widened beginning in the Fall of 2007. Michael Baker Jr., Inc.
(Baker) is performing Final Design services in partnership with PennDOT
District 12-0. Baker is developing Plans, Specifications and
Estimates for materials required to construct this section of
highway.
Approximately 1.9 miles of Route 22 will be widened as a part
of this section of Route 22. From just west of the Route 22/982
intersection to the Route 22/Township Road 693 (Auction Barn Road) intersection, Route
22 will be widened to provide 4 traffic lanes with a median divider.
Openings in the median will be provided to allow for left turn lanes
at intersections and appropriate locations.
The
reconstruction of U.S. Route 22, Section B09 will impact 0.19 acres
of wetlands, which will be replaced as part of the Section B08
construction contract. The
wetland
mitigation site is located on property owned by the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers in Derry Township.
Construction activities are expected to slow traffic in the
project area, especially during peak traffic times. No detours are
planned, and access to local businesses and residences will be
maintained during construction. Construction is expected to require
24 months (to be completed in Fall 2009).
