The fourth of nine projects to
widen and improve U.S. Route 22 in Westmoreland County is completed.
All travel lanes on the reconstructed U.S. Route 22
Section B07, at New
Alexandria are open to traffic and new traffic signals are in
operation. PennDOT Engineering District 12-0 and their construction
contractor, Golden Triangle Construction, Inc. of Imperial,
completed all new lane construction on December 13, 2002 between U.S
Route 119 South and S.R. 0981.
Under this $20.5 million contract, Golden Triangle
Construction, Inc. of Imperial, reconstructed and widened
approximately two miles of Route 22 to four lanes between U.S.
Route 119, near Shieldsburg, and State Route 981, in New Alexandria.
Left turn lanes were constructed at intersections with U.S. Route
119, Washington Avenue and Route 981. Either mountable curb or
median barrier were installed. The bridge over Loyalhanna Creek
also was replaced.
Please obey all speed
limits, use caution when approaching intersections and wear your
seatbelts.
The
following was completed:
- Reconstruction of road surface
from asphalt to concrete pavement
- Widing of roadway from 2 lanes to
4 lanes
- Construction of 3 span continuous
concrete I-beam dual structure
over
Loyalhanna Creek
- 4 Box culvert extentions
- Realignment of Route 119
