Approximately 4.1 miles of Route 22 was widened as a part of this section of Route 22. From just east of the Cozy Inn Cut-Off to the Route 22/66 interchange, Route 22 was widened to provide 4 traffic lanes with a median divider. Openings in the median are provided to allow for left turn lanes at intersections.  

Project construction was completed in Summer 2008.

The project for this section of Route 22 was let on December 16, 2004.  Golden Triangle, Inc. was the low bidder and was awarded the project for a contract amount of $43,877,812.
